GOP ‘Elites’ Pushing Immigration Reform

By Evan McMurry | Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham battled the rest of the Fox News Sunday panel over immigration, arguing that immigration reform and current enforcement of immigration laws were weakening the American workforce, even as her fellow panelists countered that reform would bolster the economy.

“I think what we’re seeing here is a split inside the Republican Party between two staunch conservatives,” host Chris Wallace said, going on to ply Ingraham with a Wall Street Journal editorial that called flinching on reform “de facto amnesty.”

“As far as I can tell, the Wall Street Journal is on the side of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama, Pat Leahy and La Raza,” Ingraham said. “I think they should put down their dogeared copy of Fountainhead and live in the real world…Do we care about American workers at all?”

“You’re the one who’s arguing the AFL-CIO argument,” Will said, noting that the “economic dynamism” aided by immigrants would help sustain the American workforce.

“So why have a border at all?” Ingraham said. “There is no will to enforce the border. There is no faith in this administration to do it. The Republican elites and the Democratic elites agree, and the people are revolting across this country.”

Wallace and Juan Williams then challenged Ingraham with the fact that deportations under the Obama administration were at record highs; she countered that Obama’s executive order to defer action against undocumented young people in the summer of 2012 belied this argument.

The AFP has an impressively credentialed board of directors. But what is missing
from the board is an economist. A nationalist economist would advocate not for the
global economy like the one we have, but for a sovereign economy. I believe that a sovereign
economy, when implemented, would look something like this:

Nationalists impose tariffs on imports (protectionism), stop foreign investment
and guest worker programs. Inflation is somewhat dramatic with regard to
foreign produced consumer goods. Wage inflation, albeit not as dramatic, occurs
as well as workers are in demand to produce goods in US factories. Inflation on
domestic goods and services occurs as well but more mildly.

The net result of the sovereign economy is that essential goods such as housing,
healthcare, college and food are more affordable while non-essentials such as
iPhones, computers, vacuum cleaners become more expensive (pawn shops do well
    in this type of economy).

It is probably a fair statement to say that about any nationalist political
party would implement an economy such as this.

I love Ingraham’s reply that the WSJ editorial board should put down their dog-eared copy of Fountainhead.

George Will has a visceral hatred of populism. If the capitalist class wants third-world immigrants slaving for $5 an hour Mr. Will believes that the government should accommodate this.

The AFP stands with American workers. George Will and the GOP capitalist elites talk about caveats and open borders. Conservatives the American Freedom Party is for the common working man and woman.
